Ulitimate DJ and Karaoke has provided music for every Lucky Break show since it started in Kansas City. Our Company has participated in more Kansas City Lucky Break shows than anyone we know of.
Since Steve Douglas (the ower of Ultimate DJ and Karaoke) has seen so many shows he has some very good advice concerning the show.
How To Become a Lucky Break Contestant
The quickest way to get on the show is to register online, currently you can usually get on within a couple of weeks. One singer is usually drawn out of a hat is there is a no show contestant. My advice is come to the show early, enjoy yourself, watch and see what works and what doesn't and hopefully you will be picked to sing.

How to Win Harrah's® Lucky Break Contests
1. You need to be a great singer. I have had many people who have seen the TV show, without watching the live show, remark that they could easily win. The quality of singers voices doesn't seem to transfer to the video tape, in fact it seems to degrade markedly. Contestants sing with NO vocal effects.
2. You can be the greatest singer in the world but it all comes down to singing Happy Birthday a cappela.
Most nights will have more than one person with a perfect score. This results in a sing off with everyone singing Happy Birthday to determine the winner. This kills most singers who are unprepared. If you haven't worked on this don't even bother competing. Come see the show and you will see what I mean.
3. Don't chose a song with a long introduction. You only have two minutes to sing before your song is faded out, and long introductions leave you standing there looking awkward. It also reduces the time you have to show off your vocal talents. Don't pick songs with long pause in the middle for the same reason.
4. Choose a song that really shows off your vocal talents. You only have two minutes and most songs don't even get rolling until after two minutes. Songs like "Pour Me" by Trick Pony is an example of a song that can wow people in two minutes. View Song List
5. Know the song well! The Karaoke monitor sits on the floor of the stage and it's obvious when you are looking at it.
Judges comment on this and subtract from your score. Once in a while it is OK, but make sure your not glued to it.

Why Are There So Many Different Brands Of Karaoke Songs and Which One Is The Original Artist? We strive to have the best song library in Kansas City. There are many makers of Karaoke music. When you purchase songs in large compilations and from different karaoke brands there are always going to be many versions of the same song.
There are very few karaoke music company that I am aware of that use the original artists music (Disney is one of the few). They are all recreated
by live musicians or computer generated music equipment. The more expensive karaoke CD's use live musicians. The top two brands in our song library are Sound Choice® and Chartbuster®.
If you can't find the song you sing in these two brands you will have to compromise by picking another brand.
It is very important to learn the brand name of the song you sing. This will usually be displayed at the beginning and end of each song as it is played.
If you are in doubt you can attend one of our shows during the week and I can go through the different versions. Please let me know you are coming early and I will be happy to do this for you. Just use the contact us form at the right hand side of this page. When Is it? The show generally starts taping at 8:00 PM every Tuesday. If you want to be an alternate you should arrive early, no later than 6PM. If you want to watch the show and be shown on TV as an audience member you should get to Toby Keith's no later than 6PM also.
